Carpenter out duels Halladay to lead Cardinals into NLCS

Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter celebrates after throwing a complete game, 3-hit shutout to lead his team into the NLCS

After making the playoffs on the final day of the regular season, the St. Louis Cardinals have defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in 5 games. Chris Carpenter (1-0) got the win for the Cardinals, throwing a complete game, 3-hit shutout against the 2010 Cy Young Award winner Roy Halladay (1-1). The win gave the redbirds their first playoff victory since 2006, when they won the World Series. The Cardinals head to the NLCS, where they will take on their division rival Milwaukee Brewers in a best of seven series.

Prediction: Milwaukee in 7
